Robert

Robert seemed to be of strong personal character, I strive to use some of his leadership qualities to aid me in my current position of director of the Library. These values are integral to my job and could well be adapted to include the lifelong worthiness of any responsible Christian person in any endeavor.  I take responsibility for my decisions and want my values to be known as a vital part of the person that I am.  Being an effective leader and promoting our county library will make me successful at my job. As a library director, there are everyday decisions to make and problems to be solved.  Certainly nothing on the massive scale such as facing the aftermath of 9/11 that Heather discussed is comparable at the public library, but there are moments of frustration where I have cried.
Most people prefer straight forward talk to simple platitudes.  Even though sometimes the truth hurts, it is much preferred over “sugarcoating” as Heather put it, and falsehoods.  When facts and values are clear to you, it is much simpler to make ideas concise to staff.  Trying to be consistent is a constant battle; there are always exceptions to rules. Nevertheless, staff needs objectives to enable them towards empowerment. Delegation to capable staff is absolutely essential.  Trying to hire caring capable people that will work well in our team is my primary goal before winter.
